How to add a favicon in Shopify
Shopify themes have a built-in favicon setting in the theme editor. Upload one square PNG and Shopify resizes it and adds the tag for you.
Steps
- In Shopify admin go to Online Store → Themes and click Customize on your live theme.
- Open Theme settings (the gear or paintbrush icon) → Logo (called “Logo and favicon” in some themes).
- Under Favicon image, select or upload your PNG and click Save.
- Check your store in a private window. Repeat for each theme you switch to; the setting is per theme.
File to use: favicon-96x96.png or android-chrome-192x192.png (square PNG; Shopify scales it down to 32×32). Make it with the favicon generator (free, no signup).
Check it worked
Run the favicon checker on your live URL to confirm every icon loads and Google has a usable size. If the old icon keeps showing, see favicon not showing. The full tag-by-tag explanation is in how to add a favicon.

Questions people ask
What size should a Shopify favicon be?
A square PNG. Shopify displays it at 32×32 pixels; uploading 96×96 or larger keeps it sharp on retina screens.
Why isn’t my Shopify favicon showing?
Make sure you saved it on the published theme (each theme has its own setting), then test in a private window. Google search results update separately and can take weeks.
