How to add a favicon in Squarespace

Squarespace calls the favicon the “browser icon”. Upload a square PNG and it replaces the default Squarespace cube in tabs, bookmarks and search results.

Steps

  1. In the Squarespace editor, open the panel for your site’s logo and title settings (search “browser icon” in the panel’s search box to jump there).
  2. Find Browser icon (favicon) and upload your square PNG.
  3. Save, then check the site in a private window.

File to use: android-chrome-192x192.png or android-chrome-512x512.png (square PNG). Make it with the favicon generator (free, no signup).

Check it worked

Run the favicon checker on your live URL to confirm every icon loads and Google has a usable size. If the old icon keeps showing, see favicon not showing. The full tag-by-tag explanation is in how to add a favicon.

Questions people ask

What size is the Squarespace favicon?

Upload a square PNG; 192×192 or 512×512 from the package is a good choice because it stays sharp when Squarespace generates the small sizes.

Why does Google still show the Squarespace logo for my site?

Google refreshes favicons on its own crawl schedule, which can take several weeks after you change the browser icon.
